Rosarians are the best.

Before I start I wish I could write as eloquently as camp or as brief as others but I am not such gifted, so to the story.

I had a post a few days ago about if I was too late to start cuttings for my zone. I am totally ignorant about roses. I have one, yes one, rose bush but am addicted. Anyhoo, I was asking because one former client had an old rose bush I have tried taking cuttings a few times this year with utter failure. She had recently listed her house (she is 90 or so) and going to a home. So last night I contacted her to see if she would contact me when her house sold so I could try one or two last cuttings. She asked me to come by at 3:30 (she was a very timely lass) today. When I showed up I was greeted by her, her realtor and lawyer. Long story short is she has outlived all her family and happy someone is taking interest in her mothers (a rosarian of past) favorite rose bush. The new owners can either allow me access to take cuttings until I am successful or have to allow me to remove it during dormancy. Sorry I couldn't tell the story better but it brings a tear to my eye.

Of all the forums rosarians I have found to be the best. Kudos to you all

ah, I have yet to meet a mean gardener (although Ellen Willmott, a high society British gardener was famously tight fisted) - generosity, of both time and material, seems to run throughout the gardener's psyche. I guess all that contact with life, in its wild abundance, brushes off on us somewhere down the line.....but tales of total selflessness are almost commonplace amongst the green-fingered.

Wonderful story! You told it quite nicely, IMHO :)

You told it perfectly! I love people like that, hard to find sometimes in times like these. These are my kind of people, love them all!

I hope the cuttings take.
