Puddling butterflies

I've put down thick manure/wood shavings very deep in three large beds. The butterflies are everywhere "puddling" in the manure. I vaguely remember they're after minerals so they have the necessities to make whoopee. They're puddling in clusters, and it's a sight to behold.

It is, Cath. I've never seen quite so many as this year. I've never put the manure down at quite this time of year, so maybe that's the difference.

Lol...If I don't "pick up" after my dogs enough the little lavender ones come in swarms! Such pretty little creatures, but so gross!

A man's got to do what a man's got to do. I've read the males do it to get minerals to make sperm. Do the girls do it, too? I don't know.
