"jesse hildreth" at sjhrg rose sale

I spent some time earlier today taking pictures of "Jesse Hildreth," which is just now beginning to put up "cuttable" stems. I LOVE this rose.

And joyously, I heard today from Jill Perry that there are seven little plants nicely rooted from the cuttings taken in spring. I only wish they had 20 of them . . .

But then, maybe not everyone wants a creamy Tea Rose with a fruity fragrance and disease-free foliage . . . ;-)

Oh fun

My order for Westside Road Cream Tea was cancelled, they did not have any after all, guess that means I need a different pale Tea

Kippy, I know this would be good for you because it's good for me. :-)

Just lovely, Jeri! I can't make it to the San Jose event soon, but I would absolutely try to grab a plant of Jesse Hildreth if I could.

Kippy, they do now appear to have Mlle. de Sombreuil in stock if you don't already have that one. I hear very good things about it. Devoniensis is also available, but it seems either slow to grow or hard to fit because of how large it could end up.

Jay, if they tried to email me to swap out plants, I missed it. Auto fill used an old email address which I noticed the next morning and emailed them about. There were quite a few I could have substituted but they refunded instead. So I guess that means I will have to wait and reorder .... With a few others of course

But since I found out at the same time as Jeri posted, I will take it as a sign :)

I think that sounds reasonable.

'Mlle. de Sombreuil' (assuming it's the Tea, and not the climber) is another rose that is good in a coastal SoCal climate. I found it to be disease-free and a good bloomer -- and the blooms opened well here (which not all pale roses do).

So, there is a place for both of them in mild-climate gardens.

Right now, though, I would like to see all 7 of the available plants in the hands of people who will know them for the rare treasures they are. And who may, eventually, share them forward.

Kippy, if you can't get your hands on the beautiful Jesse, Mlle. de Sombreuil has been a miracle plant in my garden. It grew more quickly and vigorously than any band I've ever had, and has been endlessly putting out buds and flowers from day one. I pinched off the first flush but after that just gave up and let them bloom. No disease, just one flush of flowers after another, no matter what the temperature.
