| A tiny bud on a mystery rose. Especially when it is one you rustled! But guessing once it opens and I find it is the cl Cecile Brunner I think it is, well....not quite as exciting. But it is a cute tiny bud on a tiny cutting. And my bigger Cl Cecile has no buds so here is to hoping! |

| A bud on a mystery rose is exciting! I saw a new cane growing from a rose that only had 2 canes for the longest time. I was excited about that. I was thinking that only rose lovers can spot the new red growth right away through a tangle of overgrown annuals at the base as they walk by. |

| That is so true Kitty! I enjoyed one spray from Morey's Pink and have been waiting, and waiting and waiting on new growth. And last week here is a little red cane sneaking out. |

| The bud is starting to open and it is pink..... |

| Extreme excitement would be rain. My garden is so stressed that I can't really take much pleasure in it now. Three days of steady rain would be almost more excitement than I could stand. In the meantime, having to disbud Annie Laurie McDowel in her one gallon pot (only one or two buds, but still) has been exciting since my rose had such a slow start. Ingrid |
|
| Ingrid, we are also longing for rain -- that long heatwave that began in August, and ended in Sept. really stressed the plants. Now, we're getting periods of desert-dry heat, alternating with a few normal days, (and very high temps expected next weekend) so there is MORE stress. I guess the most exciting thing is that our two own-root plants of The Dark Lady are now growing well, and blooming generously -- even the one that had to be lifted up for repairs to the retaining wall behind them (after our neighbor's workman backed smack into it). So, I think, after several false starts, we finally have this rose growing well. Jeri Jeri |

| Mme. Cornelissen got moved this summer, and I am excited that it has releafed and has a number of buds. I doubt if I will see much, if any bloom, as the temperatures are supposed to drop into the 30's this week, but it has survived and is healthy. I am so excited about this. Maybe in this spot, with more sun, it will be beautiful. I am also excited to see that the main canes of Purple Skyliner have strengthened and I think it will do fine as a shrub. I am already looking forward to seeing what happens with it next year. And Radiance, for almost the first time, has a fat bud and looks healthy. It is in a bed I did a soil test on and realized I wasn't fertilizing it enough. I am so excited that this rose is going to do well instead of languish on and on. I hope you all get some rain. And I am excited for you with that mystery rose, Kippy. It's so much fun to wait and wait and then be rewarded with a bloom. Gean |

| My shipments of fall roses all sent today! By the end of the week I will have 9 additions to the garden, though Aennchen Von Tharau and Raubritter will be going to High Country Roses for commercial propagation. So really it is just 7 which will be planted and tended. Also excited that the weather has cooled off enough that it's about that time to get out in the garden and clean things up. I'm getting rid of all of the Hybrid Teas, a languishing Alnwick Rose, a Knockout, and some Indian Hawthornes (thrip nurseries). |

| Well, Josh, what seven roses are coming to live with you? Thank you for sending 'Aennchen van Tharau' and 'Raubritter' to High Country. I like that nursery and hope one day to have AvT. It will be fun knowing it came from a rose you sent them. Gean |

| I bought a band of cl. 'Florence Bowers Pink Tea' just before Vintagegardens.com closed, and it is growing by leaps and bounds! I've never met a climbing Tea that grew so quickly. I'm thrilled, simply thrilled. Oh frabjous Joy! Lux |

| Excitement is: Shopping!!! Clementina Carbonieri for front garden |
|
| spring bulbs - it took 2 weekends to get the 2,000+ bulbs in the ground - it sounds a lot but scattered in colonies of 200 or so, they do not go far in a small wood. Even so, bluebells, wood anemones and small narcissii are planted (deeply) while we cross our fingers and hope ravenous moles, foxes or badgers don't have these little bulbs in their sights. As a system of deferred pleasure, spring bulbs are rarely beaten since they are reliable, rewarding and most of all, apart from a bit of grunting and wrestling with long handled bulb planters (we have blisters), are simplicity itself. |
|
| Jeri, your beautiful rose is a far cry from my red, red, red Dark Lady. It's great to see this rose in the color it should be, and I wish you great success with it. Ingrid |

| Excitement is ordering Le Vesuve, Monsieur Tillier and Rosette Delizy for the front yard! Excitement is also finding Mrs. Oakley Fisher at Annie's Annuals. I never considered this rose until I saw it in person - luminous and charming. |
|
| Ingrid -- we have had such terribly hot (for us) weather -- I have one bloom of The Dark Lady which is an actual RED. Jeri |
|
| Gean, I am receiving: Souv. D'Elise Vardon All for my own garden. Once AvT and Raubritter are ready, I will include those as well. Josh |

| With the heat, my little bud opened faster than I hoped. But it is Cl Cecile from what it looks like (mostly blown) |
|
| Excitement for me is the LONG, thick. vigorous cane shooting out of my Crepuscule. Really, REALLY exciting! Brenda, Mrs. Oakley Fisher is so lovely. |

| DANG! I'm excited for ALL OF YOU! Camps, please share photos of those bulbs when in bloom? Sounds so gorgeous! I am most excited to see how well my spring bands have done and to watch them bloom. All my blooms just seem like little jewels in the autumn light with low humidity. Some of my Bourbons purchased in June from ARE have big fat buds. Archduke Charles, Distant Drums, and Nur Mahal have gone mad with blooming. My little baby Jeri Jennings was allowed one blossom and I wish I could put it in the zapper and make it 5 X 5 right NOW. It is so gorgeous...even the fade. A great rose! Some of the roses I thought wouldn't make it from the grasshopper plague are leafing out again...some aren't. Parade seems to have survived the transfer from arch to trellis and has two gorgeous blooms. Susan |

| Josh, I have four of those seven roses. I am excited for you to find out how all different classes of roses do in your garden. I like to do the same thing, find out for myself. One day I want Crepuscule! |
|
| Exictement is the first bloom on a spring band that you've been disbudding for the last 6 months. Lady Hillingdon: |
|
| Excitement is also digging out today that knockout rose of your husband's...and replacing it with the Lady Hillingdon above! |
|
| Lol, perfect, subk. |
