abraham darby a late inning homerun

Most of the roses have given up for the season, although Darlow's Enigma is still hanging on rather half heartedly, and of course Polareis is loaded with buds for what will be the third major flush which most years makes it through a few light frosts.
But - gloomy drizzly afternoon, heading out to the chicken coop, something caught my eye off on the left - and sure enough, a full sized open Abe bloom! It is at the end of a new rather small cane, and very wet and heavy, and so was facing down. I clipped it and now it is filling the kitchen with fragrance.
Why are they so much sweeter when unexpected? I have never posted a photo, but if I can figure out how to do it, I will.

Abe Darby is certainly my favorite D. Austin rose. Somehow any blooms this time of year quickens my heart.

Your roses are giving up due to the cold while mine are doing it for the opposite reason, it still being close to 100 degrees, but I can understand how grateful one is for the roses that are still doing their best to deliver. For me it's Souvenir de la Malmaison, which actually had a short rest but now has some blooms and quite a few buds. For some people the flowers pale in the heat but luckily that's never been my experience, although they are somewhat smaller, but still quite beautiful.

I love my Abe Darbys! Flowers are just beautiful!
Mine are covered with buds and blooms right now in northeast Georgia!
