This is such a fine rose in many sites that I suspect it is sensitive to my tricky soil - or perhaps the water. For several years the new foliage has bleached white by the end of the summer. I see this on several of my roses. It is such a good rose when it is happy that I want it to be happy -- and that means that it needs to be elsewhere. Free to anyone in the Bay Area who wants it. I will be happy to dig it up and meet you halfway.

!Que lastima! It IS a lovely rose. And I've never seen that effect here. But then, I have a "Fairmount Prosperpine" which is miserable here . . . Jeri

There is a lot of limestone here, wonderful vineyards not two miles from our house. But I think it is really the irrigation water. Everything that is affected starts out richly green in the spring when natural rainfall is watering the plants. Once irrigation starts they slowly decline. I'll keep a few (including my beloved Dart's Dash) but too many and the garden looks ragged. However, in anyone else's garden this would be a wonderful plant. I'd like it to have that chance. I'll be happy to dig it up for an interested area gardener. Rosefolly

That's too bad. I planted one this year. I planted Fairmount Perserpine too. it looks fine but it's 1 foot tall with no sign of growing.

Here, in what WERE normal-rainfall years, the roses perked up and greened up when the winter rains fell. Good rainfall washed out accumulated minerals, and made happy roots, under happy plants. With our record-setting lack of rainfall over the past year, roses are getting by completely on tapwater -- and it's bad tapwater to begin with. The minerals left behind just keep building up. But I have to say -- FRPP, for one, is handling the situation well. Leaves, thus far, are staying nice and green. So -- lucky me! Jeri

I'm glad it works out well for you, Jeri. I think it does in most gardens.

Well, you know -- no rose is perfect EVERYWHERE. :-( Jeri
