I was given this beautiful young tea a few months ago, but the gifter did not know the identification. I allowed these first blooms to develop in hopes that an ID can be obtained. The bloom color on the photograph is pretty accurate. It has (what I would call) moderate thorns....not one of those wickedly thorny teas. Any suggestions? Thanks, Molly

Could it be Vineyard Song? It's a Moore "shrub"? I grow it and the blossom looks similar to yours. Here is a similar photo on HMF. Susan

Thanks for the input. I do have Vineyard Song, but this shrub is definitely a tea and the bloom is quite large. I was thinking maybe it is Marie d'orleans? Molly

I have a young Marie but her bloom was not similar to your first photo. I will think on it more. I'm sure someone can help. Sorry. Susan

How about Archduc Joseph?

Is Archduc Joseph also known as Monsier Tillier? I have MT and it has tinges of brick color. The blooms on this rose are a medium pink and are fully double and are larger than MT. Molly

Molly - can you post a picture of the entire bush? That might help. Jackie

In New Zealand it is called M. Tillier. I have a locally acquired M.Tillier and it is as you describe...(?)

Take a look at MT on HMF. Some of the dozens of pictures of MT have the brick tinges you refer to, and some do not. Teas are very variable, and some of the main things they vary in over time (I mean on the same bush) are color tinges and the size of the bloom. There are some pictures of MT on HMF that look exactly like your rose - I think that is what it is. When it gets older you may see the bloom size change and the color vary. Jackie

Jackie, I will take a photo of the whole bush tomorrow morning. It is still quite young and sprawling, but perhaps it will help with the ID. Thanks for all Molly
