Lyda Rose

Lately it seems like I'm always on the fence about some rose or another. At the moment it's Lyda Rose, especially after seeing Ogla's picture of Lyda by the fence.

What are my chances of having Lyda look like this in the Land of Hot and Humid?

I'm especially curious about the fragrance. Many people rave about it while others describe it as "light" or none at all.

If you are looking for a shade tolerant and prolific, near continuous blooming rose get Lyda. If you are buying based on fragrance there are better roses out there. JMHO

Beautiful picture! Shade tolerant and prolific is the idea. Fragrance would be a bonus.

BG, she is super healthy here in hot n humid. One of my best repeaters. For fragrance….none to my nose. One of the "workhorses" of my garden. I'm including a photo from the spring flush. She is still young. Always has blooms but not a "flusher" for me after the initial flush.

Resembles 'Kathleen', which perhaps has a somewhat different range of adaptation that might be of use.

I have one in a pot and its very healthy, am trying to decide where to put it. Does it get huge? Does it need protection from hot afternoon sun [I am in Texas]? Does it sprawl?

I really like it - it blooms it head off in the pot, and I want to find just the right spot for it. The photos are beautiful!

Judith, mine is in a hot SW spot and does fine. Doesn't seem to get huge….I don't think I did anything more than tip prune mine last year.
Mine also throws long arching canes which can be pegged or left to droop with the weight of the flowers. I wouldn't say mine sprawled. Most of the growth seems to come from a few canes at the base. She's pretty mannerly compared to some of the roses I have.
I grow her with Rose du Mai dianthus and nepeta. She is near my huge Ascot too and there is a once blooming damask I have managed to weave through Lyda's canes.
When I am doing my spring weeding the combined scent of Lyda and the pinks is fantastic and wafts 10-15 ft on a breeze.
