A Potpourri of Roses for No Reason

I love to take pictures of my roses and garden and, since there's no one else who will appreciate them, you've become my captive and I hope not too disgruntled audience many times.

I thought I'd make this a little more instructive by pointing out how old some of these shrubs are, although in no instance are they older than six years. The intense heat, low rainfall and low humidity prevent them from turning into the giants some of you have, and which I would love to have in some instances, but everyone has some limitations and those are mine.

Beautiful roses. Keep them coming as my last blooms are soon to be gone for the year.

Thanks!!!

Beautiful roses, Ingrid. And you better believe we appreciate your roses!
Glad you put a shot of your Marie Pavie in there too with all those more "glamorous" roses. She's quietly beautiful too in her own special way.
I'm not familiar with Aunt Margy's Rose. Very nice, and it looks low-thorned too. And fragrant, huh?

Is it bad to want to go rose rustling in Ingrid's garden?......

Love the photos of the whole plants! Sometimes we get so hung up on the individual flowers we miss seeing the beauty of the whole plant.

Thank You Ingrid!

Did you hear my ooohs and ahhhhs as you showed each picture? Lovely--especially since not much of anything is blooming in my garden which seems to think winter is coming soon or something!

Ingrid,

I agree with Kippy, your garden is rustle worthy! That Aunt Margy's Rose is especially tantalizing.

YES!, Kippy nailed it. I was wondering what I liked so much about the pictures and not only was it being able to see the whole plant but also but there was enough in the pictures to give a person a perspective of size. I'd love to see more…..

Looking good! It's been a great October for the roses here too.

Your Mrs. B. R. Cant is lovely.
I have a young specimen in my front garden.

How beautiful they are. Thank you for sharing them with us. I don't believe size matters necessarily.

hoov, that rose is breathtaking! Is that Belinda's Dream? I've said it before and I'll say it again, your garden is utterly gorgeous and totally picture-worthy. We are being deprived! I don't know what you do with your roses, but they're always covered with blooms.

Diane, I was wondering about yours just the other day. Frankly, my Annie Laurie McDonnel is growing at a glacial pace, and is still in its little 1-gallon pot. It's teaching me patience in a major way. How is yours coming along? Any blooms yet? The few tiny buds I've had I've pinched off.

I've just realized that the post I sent you all last night to thank you for your kind remarks did not post for some reason. I know I'm not the only one who doesn't receive much support or approbation from garden visitors, or even family and friends, so you must know how much pleasure I derive from your comments and appreciation.

I love the pink rose Hoovb. Our Belinda is starting to open all those buds too. Just counted 25buds on one side of Janet

I'm in love with your Mrs. B.R. Cant. I've been wanting to add some antiques to my garden, and I don't own a Tea either so I think I'll put this on my wish list for a spring order. I just checked and Roses Unlimited does carry it, so it must do well here in S.C.
Helpmefind says it doesn't like to be pruned heavily. Can you tell me what you do to her each spring? How much can I cut her back?

Yes that's BD. She even keeps up with 'Iceberg'.

Looking at your wild landscape, it is a lot drier where you are than here. And it is dry here, that's for sure.

Lovely roses in an atmospheric setting. The surroundings really set your roses off, and I love seeing how it all fits together. Thanks for posting these photos. Diane

Thank you, Ingrid, for sharing these with everyone. It's always a delight to see so many beautiful roses; not just a blossom or two, but the whole plant!

mzstitich, I've never pruned my two bushes of Mrs. B.R. Cant. The branches tend to go every which way while the rose is maturing but you have to put up with that until the rose fills out and becomes mature which may not be for five years. Pruning it earlier won't help the shape and may distort it even more. I have pruned other tea roses sooner that have a fuller, less gangly shape, and it's actually rejuvenated some of mine, but I wouldn't advise it for this rose. It's a very good bloomer. I disbudded these two for at least the first year but don't know whether that's really necessary.

Thank you, Diana and Kes. I always like to see a point of reference when photographing rose bushes to give an idea of their size and habit.

hoov, I've always known from looking at your beautiful and abundant garden that it was more hospitable than mine. Count your blessings, because this plot of ground has been a real challenge. Of course, in some ways the challenge also makes it more rewarding when I do succeed.

Ingrid, your roses look beautiful -- and when I see that dry, dry soil on your hills, I am amazed at what you have accomplished while being so attentive to your water usage. Mrs. BR Cant, Rosette Delizzy, and Aunt Margy, they are so pretty. Overall, I love pink roses the most and the best and you have such a good collection.

"Pink is my signature color."

Sound familiar?? ;)

What a lovely oasis you have created. Just beautiful. I want to sit there some evening & listen to the birds.

Just lovely, thankyou. And as Sidos-House says, amazing in such a dry landscape.
