| Hi, I'm searching for a white climber for my entrance gate, right now I have Casa Blanca there but it's attacking too many visitors (and me!) when entering, I try to keep it cut back but it has a propensity for sneak attacks. It has to be white as the whole front garden is white, the house & fence are purple. The arch over the gate is about 7' so something not too rambunctious, fragrance would be a plus but not necessary. BS is my worst disease pressure. Thanks. Jane |

| Madame Plantier is disease resistant, cold hardy, fragrant, white, and the right size, but is a once-bloomer. Climbing Madame Jules Bouche isn't quite as disease resistant, but it smells wonderful and reblooms, if you think your winters would spare the exposed parts. Marie Pavie or White Cecile Brunner might also be trainable for that job. Both are healthy, fragrant rebloomers. All of those are very good roses, and none of them are particularly thorny. |

| Marie Pavie is not a climber BUT it will reach six plus feet tall and only be perhaps four feet wide. It has great BS resistance and a nice strong scent. NO prickles on the canes and the leaves have MINOR prickles on the underside of the leaves but not viciously sharp. I have had one planted RIGHT next to the sidewalk leading to the front door for over 15 years and nobody has ever been scratched. |

| ffff Thanks for your response, I grow Mme Plantier as a pillar rose, she is 2yrs old, own-root & quite rambunctious, she has a whole corner to herself so is not a problem, do you think she could handle the pruning required to keep her in bounds on the archway? I also grow Mme Jules Bouche & love her but would be concerned about BS on the climbing form. papa Thanks for your response, I also grow MP, she is 4yrs old & about 4 feet tall, I adore her but not sure if she could grow over the archway, your thoughts?
