Hi Josh! I just found this forum today and have loved reading so many comments from rose lovers. I have Celine Forestier and she is just about my favourite rose. My plant is about 3 years old, flowers so generously, and is absolutely beautiful. My only problem is that my Celine is planted on a trellis and grows straight up - so all of her flowers are up in the air. I'm hoping she will eventually spill over the edge. Otherwise she is healthy and grows well in our climate. |

| Very prone to powdery mildew in my garden. After some years of waiting for it to improve I removed it to make room for something I would like better. But less than an hour's drive away from me, another gardener here on GW described it as highly PM resistant, so I would say it is variable in that regard. Rosefolly |

| I don't spray our roses, and although it's possible that Celene Forestier might have PM and/or black spot were I to peer more closely, overall it has been a consistently healthy rose (while PM and BS rage all around it). Right now, it's climbing up a leaning Sciadopitys verticilatta, about 6' high' and cascading down a few feet. However, in our z7 Maryland garden, it has only coughed up 1 flower every few years - transportingly gorgeous - but I shall be looking for a new home for it. |

| I finally got tired of mine. It would make a few beautiful blooms in the early spring and a very few after that. Lack of bloom and blackspot made me give up. |

| Wow, Mendocino Rose, I am surprised! You are usually much more patient and forgiving with roses than I am. For you to give up on a rose is really saying something. Rosefolly |

I had exactly the same experience with Celine as Mendocino Rose. I kept mine for about 5 years then, sadly, removed it. Molly |

| Blackspot and Mildew left it crippled and denuded, and after a couple of hard freezes, it was gone. This is definitely a rose for a warm, forgiving climate only. IMO 'Crepuscule' is likely to be healthier and far more generous with bloom. Same goes for 'Reve d'Or'. |

| Mine is now going on 9 years or so. It pretty much looked like it was going to die the first 4 years or so, then started to catch hold in year 5 and has been growing rampantly this year (surrounded by Reve d'Or and a MAC and an out-of-control pink China climber, it's grow or die for Celine and she gives as good as she gets). I moved her to her current out-of-the-way location because she looked like she wasn't going to make it. The spot is not only a bit snug, it is also more-or-less under the canopy of a pepper tree in crummy soil (if you can call it that). 8' tall, 10-12' spread. I would not recommend this treatment for ANY rose :-). Nevertheless, Celine has a huge flush every spring and stays more or less in bloom all summer; a few good-size flushes after the main one and always a blossom or two to be found, including now. A touch of mildew occasionally; otherwise no problems. The blossoms are distinct compared to other tea-noisettes -- frilly. Last spring:

| Second thoughts about Celine's success here: the spot under the pepper tree is a warm little micro-climate in winter (several delicate plants persist there that freeze elsewhere in the yard). It is also lightly shaded off and on during the day in summer. Celine in August of this year, in a pink phase: |

| catspa, your Celine is absolutely gorgeous. I lost patience with my mingy little plant whose flowers were nothing to write home about, especially compared to Reve d'Or, which I very much prefer. It seems to respond differently for everyone, and if you love it I'd give it a try. It may just love your garden and be perfect for you. Ingrid |

| Celine has been a winner for me. It is not as vigorous as other tea-noisettes such as Manchester Guardian Angel, Pleasant Hill Cemetary and Crepuscle, but it has a special charm. I have it growing in a protected location- it seems to not be as heat tolerant as the other three I mentioned- shuts down blooming in the heat of Dallas summer. I have not had enough cold to test it for cold hardiness. |

| Celine is one of those tea noisettes that I covet big time but have difficulty with. I think it has one of the most beautiful, fragrant blooms of any rose. I've had mine for about 3 (maybe 4??) years and it has only bloomed once. It is one rose that will have to die on its own because I will never willingly take it out. Just like my saga with Chromatella, which is an even weaker rose, I would consider it a great accomplishment if it ever actually starts to grow more vigorously and bloom more than 2 or 3 blooms per year. |

| Mine hardly bloomed at all in those early years -- one or two blooms per year, maybe. My advice would be to give it time and, thinking on my own experience, it probably is best to site it off in a corner somewhere, where its glacial pace of establishment (own-root, at least) doesn't drive you nuts. |

Catspa, thanks for sharing your positive thoughts on Celine as I acquired her this summer. I will put her in the corner where MAC formerly lived. It is a SW corner but reasonably shady. A few of my HTs there last year kept leaves but it's not intense heat in summer. After seeing your photo I remember why I bought her. Just gorgeous! I guess Reve d'Or can join here there. Susan |
