Opinions On These Austin Roses

I am preparing my Austin rose order - I am going to try Princess Alexandra of Kent, Munstead Wood and Young Lycidas.
I am also interested in trying Port Sunlight, Darcey Bussell, Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Does anyone grow these and can you tell me their bloom and growth habits and how they handle blackspot? Any photos would be appreciated. I would especially like to know if Port Sunlight is better as a bush or a climber and how much it blooms. Thanks!
Judith

The only one on your list I can comment on is Port Sunlight. For me, it looks like it will be tall, so it will be trained on a pillar to see how it will do. Its first year flowers were a nice apricot when they first opened, but they faded badly and quickly, almost as much as Tea Clipper. They were on the small side, not what I would have expected from the descriptions in the catalog or the pictures. By comparison, Carding Mill did much better in most respects. Both varieties are quite fragrant. Since it takes the Austins a while to get going, I am just going to let Port Sunlight sit and do its thing to see what it will become. Will it take off and be another heroic bush like Crocus Rose, or will it be another gangly, non-blooming Sweet Juliet or color losing variety that doesn't bloom much either like Tea Clipper? Time will tell.

I do not have Port Sunlight but was considering. According to my search, it was said to have small flowers. So, I did not get it. It seems like Pat Austin is a better choice in that color. I wish it had more petals, but probably I will go with Pat Austin.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh...had him from DA for about 6 years. The color is unusual and he stays for that much alone. Wet weather balls the blooms..he throws long canes occasionally ..not any octopus really and can be controlled. Could not grow here without spray.
