Nosy about Madame Zazu

I spotted a rose at Vintage I never heard of before. There's no picture, and none at Helpmefind either. This is what it sez at Vintage:
"From the raiser, Pamela Temple: Madame Zazu is named after Zazu my dear kitty. The Madame part comes from it being a seedling of Madmae Isaac Perierre. It is a charming semi-double rose looking something like a shrub version of Zephirine Drouhin."

I'm the one to tell you. Last summer Gregg of Vintage decided it would be fun to honor me by taking a few cuttings of roses that I grow that either came up as seedlings here in my garden or that I had started seeds of and offering them. There's an explaination in the Vintage newsletter. We didn't get a photo of Madame Zazu in time. Other roses include Tissue, Sequoia Greenfield, Red Rose Ridge, Susan Byers,Rosalia, and Michael's Big Wadoo. Pamela

That sounds like fun. I'm going to have to check out Michael's Big Wadoo..........

Beautiful

I found three of those roses-as beautiful as anything else out there. I really liked Rosalia.

I'm curious too. What else can you tell us about Michael's Big Wadoo -- size, habit, bloomiferousness, etc. Are you going to register them?

I'd like to get them up on HMF but I don't think I'm going to register them. I don't know how. I can tell you that though I love the Wadoo it is not a big strong grower(4 ft.). The disease resistance is sort of typical HT. It reblooms rather well, no scent. But it has huge sentimental value to some.

Pam -- I think it's probably important that you do the registration, and it's easy. Here's the link for getting yourself a "codename" which is the 3 letter prefix to any varietal name. Do that first, and then just send in the one page application for each cultivar from the same website. I think it's free. But it is important because if you don't register them then anyone else can send in a name that is the same as one of yours, and essentially take that name away from you. This is how you say "dibs" this name is mine, so to speak.

Thanks Kathy

Also, those of us that show roses cannot show them off to the world at the various rose shows, unless they have a registered name. There are sometimes categories for "found" roses, which these are not, and there are categories for roses the exhibitor himself has bred. But if you purchase, say, Michael's Big Wadoo (as I did) then there is exactly no place to put that in a show. And I do go to them and like to put whatever I have at the moment on the table somewhere so the rose world gets to see it in person and not just in pics on HMF.

Thanks

Kathy I can't seem to get the site to work. When I apply for a new code it says the code I've applied for is already taken even though I left the code blank. I can't get past that part of it.

Hmmm -- it worked for me. I tried it even though I have nothing to register -- you need to click on the "new code" button and put in a suggested code (I used my initials KDS after it said the first three letters of my last name were already taken). Doing that got me to the place where you actually register a rose, but again, I have nothing to register.

I did it. I've got all my roses registered now. Thanks.
