Has anyone grown this rose successfully in Zone 5? All the growers' websites say Zone 6 is as far as it will go. So -- has anyone had any luck with it in ZOne 5? I crave this rose very badly! Thanks.

I googled, it, and found 3 gardening sites that said it was OK to zone 5, and one person who says they grow it in zone 4! So, I would try it, if you have a protected location. Jackie

I grew Zéphirine Drouhin on the patio of my former garden, in a very sheltered position. I had just removed a few pavers near the wall of the house and planted it there. The upstairs neighbours' balcony protected it from above but it meant that I had to remember to water it because the rose got no natural rain water. It did very well and my neighbours could enjoy it too because it escaped upstairs.

We were listed as zone 5b when Zephirine was planted in the early 1980s, at first in an open (but not windy) site on a hill and then transplanted to a south wall which eventually became full shade and is now semi shade. She has essentially had no trouble with winter, handling it better than other zone 6 listed plants such as Sombreuil. Cath

I grow it against the east-facing wall and it does great.

Thanks you for your input. I'm going to go for it! I mean, better to try for success and maybe have problems with a rose, than never to try at all, right?

I grow it in Zone 5 here in PA, but have to peg down the canes every year and cover them with burlap. Otherwise those canes die back almost to the ground over the winter.
