Fall Color in the Cemetery - Rose Sale

| I'm leading a tour at 10 am this Saturday, Nov 21, highlighting late bloom, hips, and foliage of the fall. I'll be focusing on roses but there are also some lovely trees and fall flowers. WE WILL ALSO BE SELLING TEN ROSES.
It will be in the Historic Rose Garden, Sacramento Historic City Cemetery, at Broadway and 10th St.
Jeri and Clay Jennings are planning to come, and a number of local rosarians will be there, too.
We expect nice weather on Saturday, but a storm is expected to blow through tomorrow. It may batter the roses a bit, but what do you expect less than a week before Thanksgiving? There will still be plenty to see and talk about. We've had a very nice, extended fall flush. The hips have ripened and fallen early this year, so they will be more soft and shriveled than usual, but there is still quite a display on brunonii, eglantine, canina, cinnamomea, and others.
If any of you are able to come, that would be lovely.
All of the roses for sale are big. We have one of each, except for two Jacques Porcher (early Guillot HT - hard to find)and two Tall Hammill (probably Mme Lambard - very nice clone). We also have Cl White Maman Cochet, White Pearl in Red Dragon's Mouth, Fortuneana, Crepuscule, Mme Berkeley, and Champion of the World. They will be for sale at the beginning of the tour, first come, first served.

Great! I'll be there! I'd love to get one of these roses and have been hoping to come up there to volunteer. I especially want to see how you train your climbers and those roses that aren't quite climbers but need some support. See you then! Debbie

Yes, I'm coming to that, too. I've been looking forward to this particular tour. Laura

Anita, have a wonderful time. I've been promising myself that I'll come see the cemetery and its glories some time other than the big spring event, but I'm sorry to say I'm not free to come this year. However if this turns into a regular event, I hope to be there in the future. Best wishes Rosefolly

This is the fourth time that I've given a fall color tour in November, and I'm planning to do one next year, too, so I guess it qualifies as a regular event! It's been the third Sat of the month, so I think you'd be safe to mark your calendar. This is the first time that we've thought about selling roses other than during Open Garden, so we'll see if it's worth doing. I'll be glad to talk about training climbers/semi-climbers. It's one of my favorite topics. Anita

Great! I'll make sure to introduce myself and talk climbers. I'll certainly be ready to buy roses -- there were quite a few on the list I'd love to own. See you tomorrow! Debbie

I had to bow out. My back has been a horror, and I'm feeling the effects of standing/walking at the Convention last week, in Palm Springs. Together with a new computer at home, needing setup, and newsletters pending on my horizon, I end up stuck at home. DH PROMISES that I will get a trip to the beach as a consolation prize. Jeri |

Jeri---sorry to read about your back problems----I understand how pain restricts activities. Hope you feel better soon. Florence

I wanted so much to make it out there this fall. The garden is really a sight in the fall. I hope you have a great day.

Hi Anita, Hope the tour/sale was a success. Couldn't make it as I had hoped and also sorry to miss lunch afterward. By the way, Vintage is offering Mme de Sombrueil after all (we had talked about propagating for the spring sale) and I got one from Gregg. Diane
