'Licorice Tea' with 'Reve d'Or'

Both picked a couple of days ago, as rather loose buds, opening nicely in the house. These are two wonderful roses for my coastal Southern CA area.

'Reve d'Or' is well known, of course -- but fewer folks may know 'Licorice Tea' -- a Tea Rose int. just a couple of years back, from Paul Barden.

I am REALLY pleased with this rose! The blooms are a medium yellow, ageing gently, slightly paler. One thing I REALLY love is the foliage, which is perfect here in all seasons, and despite my alkaline conditions, remains a lovely dark green that is beautiful against the yellow blooms.

It's ironic it should be that healthy there, Jeri, being half Lilian Austin with what's behind her. Kim

Omigoshwow, such a great hue of yellow.

Was the name given because its' fragrance is that of licorice?

Precisely....well, Anise, to be more precise.
Thank you Jeri, nice to know it is prospering in your climate. I kinda knew it would, since it is actually not a strong plant here in my climate; many Tea hybrids don't do well here, but thrive in California locations. I daresay this would be a good candidate for Florida and TX as well.

You pegged it, Paul.

It hung out in a 1-G here far too long, and when we potted it up to 7-G, it simply exploded in growth and bloom.

It's one of a small handful of roses that need to go into the ground, but which are already demonstrating GREAT qualities. I love everything about it.

Jeri
