while i am among experts, may as well get my queries in.A new island bed i am planting had HT roses which failed because the soil became rose-sick. This was 7 years ago and the bed has been repalnted with hebes and phormium (a dog's dinner, actually) but we are now hoping to replant with just 3 Austin roses, lots of perennials and plenty of mycchorizal (Spelling??)fungus and fresh john innes compost. Am i going to get away with it?cheers, suzy

My guess is you're going to learn most American rosarians here have heard of RRD, but have little to no personal experience with it.

I have heard this is more of a problem in the UK than here. One solution I've heard of is to plant the roses with mycorrhizae to replenish what may have been depleted by the old roses. Since you also let the bed rested for 7 years, I don't think you still have an issue to worry about.
