| Im new to growing roses so i got a question. Im planning on growing a long row of large albas and damasks side by side across my front yard by the road do they look good planted together. Im not worried about creating a privacy screen. Just want a beautiful hedge. |

| I think it could look good. Their habits aren't identical: Damasks are somewhat lower (not low) and more sprawling than Albas, which tend to make tall vase-shaped shrubs. And Damasks have fuller and pinker flowers than the Albas. I would be inclined to alternate the two classes: Damask, Alba, Damask, Alba. Another consideration: they may have different degrees of susceptibility to disease and be susceptible to different kinds of disease. This in case you're thinking of doing disease prevention, which I do not. If you want a hedge that's more consistent in habit, foliage, and other characteristics, you could also consider a hedge of just Albas but mixing different varieties of the class. Or all Damasks, though they're probably not as satisfactory for a hedge, at least as far as habit goes. I hope this is helpful. Melissa |
