It's a Nerine....we usually grow the cultivar Nerine bowdenii here in England...there are some other colours...white and blush pink...which is the one I have... they are useful for very late flowering, usually October and surprise us with their constitution at that time of year....

Off the top of my head, the first thing which comes to mind is some type of Nerine. But I'm sure others will be able to answer more precisely.

Yes, it is nerine bowdenii - thank you so much! I knew I could depend on you guys. Another South African bulb that likes our Mediterranean climate. Also, I knew those buds looked familiar - they look like miniature versions of the Naked Lady buds.

Now I just have to read about it to find out how to take care of it better. OBTW - I finally found the record from when I bought the bulbs - they called them "Japanese spider lilies", and of course they are not from Japan, and are not lilies!

Yes they are South African bulbs of the Amaryllis family... over here we have to plant them in dryish areas, they will rot in winter wet.. so they are perfect for my dry mediterranean style border where they get hot summer sun.... I think the one I have is N. bowdenii 'Nikita'... they can be tricky but we grow them usually in a long row, like a block of flowers which startle and surprise late in the season, in quite a shocking pink colour when everything else is dying off...

Good drainage is essential here for their success... I've lost a few because of this but I keep trying and intend to grow a lot more next year now I've got the ground right...

I had no idea what it was but it certainly is pretty! South African and related to amarylis means it's a house plant for me!
