| I happened upon an achingly beautiful rose named L'Ouche when looking in help me find.
Someone from Austrailia said it has "a heavenly scent and a willingness to bloom and bloom". Sounds like my kind of rose.
It's listed on RU's site. I've emailed Pat to see if she has it available.
Now to find out how it does in the garden... Anyone with any excperience? Would love to know EVERYTHING, growth habit, rebloom, fragrance, black spot resistance, and anything else you'd care to share.
Thanks! Jeff |

| This is one I fell in love with, too, by the photos, Jeff. Can't wait to here what Pat and everyone else says. Sherry |

| I've admired this one before, too. Countrysideroses lists among the chinas in their catalog--out of stock. Vintage has it in the Hybrid Chinas as a custom root. It's supposed to be a China/Bourbon hybrid. The descriptions of its scent confuse me. Vintage describes it as peppery and Tea-like. Somewhere else it's described as sweet. I hope you can get one from RU. Please tell us all about it if you do! |

| Sounds like what Pepe le Pew would say when he backs into a thorny one... |

I have 'L'Ouche', and if my variety is correct--I have no reason to think otherwise--it looks and acts like a Bourbon and not like a China. Mine is grafted and is struggling in an unfavorable position, and I don't much care for Bourbons, so I can't tell you how it would do in favorable conditions. Melissa |

| The Rose in commerce as "L'Ouche" is probably mislabelled as 'L'Ouche' was a China, described as "Light pink, shaded yellow", "Pale rosy flesh reflexed with yellow;large, full, fine conical buds". I have "L'Ouche"(of commerce) and it's a good rose, but it's dark pink, cupped, and very fragrant - like a dwarf version of 'Louise Odier'. |

| Jeff, did you ever buy L'ouche? I saw it at the Atl Botanical Gardens and it was gorgeous. |

Laughing hard here. I thought your title was a pun on the pain of trimming brambly roses. Imagine my surprise, its a named rosebush. Hope others enjoy my oops. Jeannie |

| I've grown this rose for about 15 years. I like the blooms, white and full. But the bush is not to my liking. Very black spot prone and no stems for the pretty blooms. The blooms are highly effected by thrips too. I consider it a sparse bloomer for most of the year. Spring blooming is good as is the fall blooming. I would shovel prune this rose, except it is an old rose that can be hard to find. |

| Hi! You mentioned your L'Ouche is white, but the Botanical Gardens rose was pink. Is this the same rose? http://www.helpmefind.com/gardening/l.php?l=2.3896&tab=1 |

| I have L'Ouche, I have had it for several years and I am about to shovel prune. I agree with Melissa that it is Bourbon like, it has a very few flowers in spring and one or two after that. The rest of the year in my subtropical garden, it has leafless, long canes. Chamoisi Superior is not far away and looks fantastic. I have been very patient, the blooms are very sweet, but small and not as distinctive as I had hoped, so after 5 years it is leaving. I bought this for Mistydowns in Victoria. Sorry if this is in pidgin English, I am terrible at typing on the iPad. |

| I'm another one who saw an incredible photo of this rose years ago (not on HMF), and I've never forgotten it. The reality seems not to be quite as wonderful a rose as the picture. Perhaps that's the reason it hasn't been offered or written about more. Ingrid |

| I never did buy L'Ouche. I had it on order from RU but changed it out after hearing all the negative comments. I go to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens often and have seen the L'Ouche bush but have never seen a bloom on it. Coconutty, I wish I had know it had a bloom, I would have made a special trip. From the sounds of it, you had some really good timing to see it. Ingrid, I think I'm in agreement with you. I've seen pictures of roses before and when I get them, they aren't quite the same. L'Ouche may be one of those--gorgeous blooms under special conditions that I probably don't have in my little garden. Jeannie, I had to laugh when I saw your post here. The name L'Ouche does sound like something Pepe Le'Pew would say. |

| Hi! I'm adding it to my spring list- the one at the Atl Botanical Gardens was gorgeous, so I'm going to risk it. I'll update this with my results... :) |

| Good luck with it Coconutty, I really wanted to love this rose, but it's just not a success in my garden. |
