Was wondering if it could only be grown as a climber or can it be a large shrub. Im a rose newbie. And can it live in zone 5?

Well, for it to grow as a large shrub, it has to live. Over the years, a lot of zone 5 people have decided to try this rose. The plea 'please report back' was repeated every time. Nobody ever has. I believe the coldest person here who successful grows this rose is Florence, in a warm zone 6.

I'm zone 6b, last year zone 7. My Paul's is the one from Pickering on multiflora rootstock and it has gotten down to single digits here during its time in our exposed to wind on an east Tennessee mountain top. I've seen no damage on it, and it's now about 25 feet up a native walnut tree. It was up that tree its first year here and has never put out a short cane. I think that the PHM that used to be advertised by a company currently in bankruptcy may not be the same rose.
