Article On Rose Identification

Kim Rupert was kind enough to scan for me an article on rose identification. "What Old Rose Is This" was written my Mrs. Ethelyn Emory Keays for the 1938 ARS Annual, using some material from "The Genus Rosa." It's a good "primer" on rose identification.

Using Kim's scans, I put the thing together as a booklet, and it has been uploaded to the websites of The Heritage Roses Group (Nat'l) and our local Gold Coast HRG.

You can find it in ARTICLES at either website, and you're welcome to download, save, and print it.

Excellent and informative article. But the pdf downloaded to me, only to part of "Indicae roses". Is there more?

Carol,

Go back and check the page numbers and you'll find you have the whole article -
Thanks so much, Jeri!

I can put it up better, without the problem, when our webmistress is back. SORRY!

Meanwhile, you can also download it from:

But NOTE: THIS LINK WILL EXPIRE ON 11-20-12.

Great article/summary of rose structures. And thank you so much for putting into download form, Jeri. So easy!

When the link expires (11/20/12) I can re-do it, if anyone needs it.

And I will replace the copies on the two websites, too.

Of course, I should add that -- once you've gotten a feel for this information, you can't do better than to purchase a copy of the Field Report Of Rose Characteristics -- which organizes similar material into an easily-used format.

Jeri,

The link's not working now.

It's working. I just tried it.
Click on the link, it takes you to a page with a download button.

OR you can go to the Gold Coast or HRG Websites, but beware, the pages are scrambled.

RE: Article On Rose Identification

I just found this! I'm reviving this older thread for any other newbies (or oldies) who may not have seen it...

I think it will be helpful as I try to puzzle out some ID's for my "rescue roses" and cuttings of unidentified roses that actually rooted (yay!)...

Some I may never know, but I stand a better chance with this info.

Thanks,
Virginia

ETA: At somepoint I hope to acquire the 'Field Report of Rose Characteristics', but it isn't in my budget just now.

I spoke too soon. This morning the second link has expired and I can't get into the HRG website. Perhaps the problem will resolve itself.

mendocino_rose, the website link isn't working for me either. Possibly some password expired? Dunno, but I ventured into my browser history and found the pdf link itself, and it still works for me- see below...

Hopefully, the web site just needs a bit of tweaking, and all will be well. I didn't really explore to see what else was there yet.
