| I've been in love with this multi-colored rose for a while now. It has such a delicate form Even the plant is graceful. Last year Kim offered me some cuttings and I jumped at the chance to try it. I stuck the cuttings sometime in June of 2012 and they took! It spent last winter outside in the little green house with my seedlings. this is what it looked like when it came out on April 18, 2013.
And then when I potted it up on May 7th.
In all her glorious colors!
She's really grown over the season and this was taken on August 26th. It was still blooming the first of November!
I'm still in love with her! |

They are lovely photos of the flower. Yes, I'm in love with her too, though I couldn't say mine has a graceful shape any more. She fell over in a storm, then was hacked at so the plumber could replace the sewer line (the joys of old houses!), but I'm hopeful she'll sprout enough to cover up all her wounds.

Looking great, Seil! Congratulations! I had the occasion to be at my local Home Depot yesterday and would you believe, they had two, two gallon Mutabilis included in their $7.98 canned roses and they were properly tagged? I was surprised and sort of sad I didn't know anyone to turn on to them. I'm glad yours is still going strong! Thanks. Kim

I will have to take a drive to Home Depot tomorrow! I am so jealous Kim! Hope this one has the same supplier

Let me know Kippy. I am to be back up around that HD this week. If yours doesn't have them, I can check back with this one to see if they're still there and bring one to you at the VCRS meeting Thursday. Unless you want two (and they still have them). Sound like a plan? Kim

That's hard to believe. Clay needs to go to H.D. -- I'll ask him to look and see if they also have it. Jeri

seil, I don't know if Mutabilis is hardy in your zone, but I have to say it's at its most beautiful as a big, gorgeous bush with loads of flowers on it. Even with only a few flowers it's so graceful and impressive when it's large, and I love its foliage as much as I do the flowers. Yours has grown impressively and the pictures of the flowers are lovely. Ingrid

I will go and check mine tomorrow AM and report back Kim, is your HD near a freeway that one might take if going to the Auto Show? (My son is planning a trip)

This one is about 12 years old. This photo was taken in mid March, just after our last freeze date, so she's just starting to bloom but it's the best one I have to show the scale and the shape of the plant. For reference, that's a 6' fence behind her. She's never been pruned, was probably watered a little to get her started (who can remember?) and might get some water once or twice during the summer, it it's particularly brutal, but mostly she does this all on her own. It's one plant, which I'm sure most of you will believe but none of my friends or neighbor do ;-)

Why's your Mutabilis so small, Lucas? LOL! I've actually seen it cover the end of a two story apartment building, about 20' X 20', but you can also whack the dickens out of it to keep it more 'in bounds'. No, sorry Kippy, the one I saw it at is up in Santa Clarita, about half way between the two freeways. If you can't find it, I'll check back there when I go up for lunch with friends and to have my truck smogged. Kim

I just acquired one as I love those blooms too, Seil. I hope it does you proud over the years and it gets enormous in its pot. Thanks for the pictures; I love the color changes. Gean

I planted one this past spring, I've enjoyed it all season. The most exciting thing about this rose for me is its health! No blackspot!! Where I live everything gets blackspot, and I'm not fond of spraying so its a huge benefit for me. I can't wait to see what it does next year now that it's had its first season to establish and get settled in!

Thanks everyone! In researching it I've seen that it grows in some pretty cold places like Moscow and Budapest. I'm not sure what zone numbers those would compare to here but I know that they get pretty cold. That makes me very hopeful that it will survive mine. Sorry to hear yours has been damaged, titan. But with the way she grows I think it will bounce back quickly for you. Kim, we NEVER get anything like this at our HDs. I'm lucky if they have anything besides KOs and that there are tags with names and not just colors, lol. Lucas, you are scaring me! I have no place to put something that large! But I doubt mine will get to those proportions because of my short season and winters being so cold. I'm sure I will have to prune off die back every spring. Gean and mzstitch, we'll have to compare notes as our babies grow up!

Lucas, Are you located in Lucas, Tx? Cause if so, my house is a stone's throw away from your city! Shoot me an email. Josh

I checked thee local HD this morning but they looked pretty wiped out after the weekend with no 2gal roses. I think they restocked Tuesday so I will check again tomorrow.
