Tea roses that don't ball in humidity

| I live in the Houston, TX area and have problems with some tea roses that ball mostly in the spring: Niles Cochet, Maman Cochet, Amazone, Mrs. B.R. Cant, William R. Smith and Mrs. Dudley Cross. Once summer arrives with very hot weather - the buds open just fine. There are two tea roses that I have that don't ball at all - Mme Antoine Mari and Safrano. Does anyone know of any other tea roses that do not ball in humidity? Thanks. |

Many of them, Carlene. I am in coastal Southern California, in an area often cool and foggy. The Cochets can ball for me, but I forgive them that, for their other excellent qualities. I just don't look at them much when the weather is dank, and they fail to open. (And, mostly, they're pretty half-open.) Check out: Mme. Berkeley Le Pactole Rosette Delizy Mons. Tillier Devoniensis Catherine Mermet (tho she will mildew for me) Mutabilis Lady Hillingdon Mme. Antoine Rebe (she also mildews for me at the coast) Etoile de Lyon (you may have to remove the outer "guard" petals, in dampish weather) Mme. Lambard (can mildew) Smith's Parish (like a gigantic China) Marie van Houtte And Archduke Charles, which while it is a China, has much in common with the Tea Roses. I'm sure you'll get other suggestions, but these come quickly to my mind. Jeri |

| antiqueroselady, my roses are still fairly young, and last spring I had some that balled but I assumed it was due to thrips which were really bad in my garden. So let me see... I don't think these balled at all. Rosette Delizy LeVesuve (a China with big flowers) Monsieur Tillier General Schablikine Mme Antoine Rebe Mme Antoine Mari Blumenschmidt Anna Olivier balled a little bit but she always has so many blooms that the percentage is real low.
