My little cuttings are happy in their box with the first batch putting out new growth. BUT We have a few nights of near freezing weather call for in the next 10 days. Should I leave them in their box as they are, assuming it will be slightly warmer in the box. Or take them in overnight? Any thoughts?

No, don't take them inside - the temperature and humidity shift will be more distressing than the cold. If you are really concerned, throw a bit of protective sheeting (fleece, hessian, plastic or old blanket), over the box at night and remove in the morning. As long as plants can thaw in their own time without sudden exposure to the eastern sun, for example, they will be alright (most have some internal anti-freeze) but sudden changes to any extremes are to be avoided.

We never get a really hard freeze here (enough to solidify the soil in the pots), but we do occasionally get a frost into the upper 20s F, with ice all over the mist bed. Rose cuttings come through that just fine, with no damage.

I'd just leave them be. From what you describe it sounds like it will be cold at night but warmer during the day. As long as the temps are not going down below freezing and staying there for any length of time they should be just fine.

Kippy, I kept cuttings outside for a week when the temperature was in 30s all day and night. Mine were just in plastic cups and a cardboard box. They'll be okay out there, but maybe move them somewhere warm or protect them from the elements. Josh

Yup. They should be fine. Our area really doesn't get enough cold to matter. I remember picking up band plants at Sequoia Nursery, when we were there for Mr. Moore's 100th Birthday. There had been a record-setting freeze, and the little plants had ice crystals in the soil. But they did fine. Jeri
