RE: Ordered York and Lancaster damask what can you tell me?

It's a wonderful rose. Flowers are plentiful and are intensely fragrant--a super wafter if ever there was one. Blooms can be all pink, pink and white, or mostly white. I've had mine for around 20 years. Can't remember whether it came from Antique Rose Emporium or Heirloom. Either way, its own root. Mine is enormous (goes up on the roof!!!), never having been pruned until this year when my gardeners assistant hacked away at it to my surprise and chagrin. Canes are really too lax to be a climber, but because I planted something else stronger next to York and Lancaster, as that plant grew it took the rose with it. Drought and shade tolerant. Needs very little care. Mine is rarely fertilized (as in maybe once a year, or not at all for several years in a row).

Beware of the hefty weaponized thorns!!! I suspect the tag is somewhere at the base, indicating where I bought the plant, but I'm none to keen to reach my hand, even gloved, into that briar patch.

The overall impression is of a big, dreamy, graceful rose with lovely flowers whose fragrance envelops the whole garden. A classic.
