Hi, I mistakenly posted this to the ARF, but now would like to ask if you all are familiar with Frederic Mistral, are there any OGR's or Austin's that should be considered as well. It can become tall, but I only have enough room for about 4' around in growth. Thanks, Lynn

I tried three Frederics because of his Damask fragrance but he was not happy in the PNW. The bush was about 3 feet (when pruned) and 5 feet tall, again when pruned. This rose grows the way he wants to whether you like it or not. On all three there were many hat racks ( dead stub ends of pruned back canes) As much as I loved him, I found him to be a fussy rose that needed rich food and lots of water. I think he would be happier in your climate.

I like the color and the size of this rose. My hope is to find something else with a good repeat and fragrance, that can tolerate some shade, but I definitely have a preference for OGR"s. Thank you for sharing the photo.

Mine is grafted on Dr. Huey and is very very tall. He does not bloom until he grow long stems so the first roses are often at 4 feet and by the end of summer he is up there at 7 feet or more. This rose is not a flopper here. The stems are stiff and strong. The flowers are very good and fragrant with a number of good repeats. Mine will rust around Halloween if the weather is bad. The petals are thick for a perfume rose so it might be good in the heat.
