Any Hybrid Musks do good in zone 5?

Just wondering if anyone with zone 5 or colder winters grew hybrid musks and what ones?

I was just looking up hybrid musks the past day or two. Most of the ones I remember were hardy to Zone 5, so I don't think you will have trouble finding hardy ones.

I adore Buff Beauty--which is lovelier than most pics I see of it. It is hardy to Zone 5b.

Thanx kate

Darlow's Enigma is the only thing classed as a hybrid musk that is any good here. The rest have had a combination of hardiness/disease/alkaline soil issues.

I had both darlows enigma and buff beauty in my pa garden. Both were amazing and I am ordering them for pots here in Tennessee until I have my own garden again. Buff beauty was just beautiful especially in the fall ( but all summer too ! ) and darlow is a scent powerhouse that I couldn't get enough of. Both grew like weeds , in one full year I realized I underestimated their sizes. I just love hybrid musks!
I had a few more but they were bands and then we moved so I am not sure how they did.

Ballerina does well here (and did when I was still Zone 5).

As Madgallica points out, it depends on which zone 5 you're talking about. In her zone 5, only Darlow's Engima did well. In my dry midwestern zone 5, I can't think of a hybrid musk that HASN'T done well (though perhaps I'll tease Kate a bit and note that Buff Beauty was one of my relatively less exciting ones). Off the top of my head, the ones that have done spectacularly well include the following:

Francesca

Virtually everything blooming in the following picture is a hybrid musk I'd recommend in my zone - far right is a little of Francesca, then the dark red is Wilhelm, the white at center is Petite de Terre Franche with Heavenly Pink at its feet to the right, behind it at the fence is Darlow's Enigma, and the pink to the left is Cornelia duking it out with Heritage (an Austin).

Beyond that, I've had good results from Nymphenburg, Moonlight, Danae, and some others that don't come to mind now, but not as spectacular as these have been. On the whole, my hybrid musks have had better survival in my yard than any class other than maybe shrubs.

Cynthia, I adore that pic of part of your hybrid musk collection--lovely!

Thanks, Kate - I do seem to be posting that one a bit more lately, even though I took at least a dozen in that bloom cycle alone. That particular angle catches the most variety in that particular bed.

Sorry I didn't have a picture of Felicia after all, as I'd claiimed from your other thread - I was thinking of this photo of Francesca, who's also a most worthy HM for your wish list.

I've had good luck with Cornelia and Lavender Lassie, planted in terrible spots. Buff Beauty, planted in a better spot, died after a pretty good run. I'm not a very good rose parent, so they'd probably do even better for you.
