| Fabulous, matey - I love this rose. True, it really only flowers once in the season (although there are sometimes scattered blooms in autumn) but what a flowering - a splendid, stately rose and fully deserving of its iconic status. Tough, healthy, graceful - will laugh at Z5. Interestingly, there has been quite a bit of debate about it's parentage with most experts going along with Dot's original statement of lineage but as always, there are renegades (Jack Harkness) who insist that there must be spinosissima (sp?) in it's parentage. I don't know whether DNA tests have ever conclusively proved things one way or another....but for us mere rose-lovers, it is largely irrelevant - all we need to know is...is it healthy? Is it beautiful? Is it hardy? 3 out of 3 with Nevada. |

| Nice if i can get one its going next to my band of Alba semi-plena. That will be interesting in a few years. |
RE: Lets talk about the moyessi Nevada.

| Mine died, and I was told by people who know a lot more than I do that it would have done much better as a grafted plant. It may be OK once it gets going, but it isn't easy to get it going. |
RE: Lets talk about the moyessi Nevada.
| | |
| The only place i can find it is greenmantle. And there own root. |
RE: Lets talk about the moyessi Nevada.
| | |
| tricky on its own roots...but more to get it to root than to grow (which has always inclined me to believe in a spinossima parentage since this class of roses can be absolute dogs to root well) - although once strong roots are visible, it should be fine. As long as Greenmantle are selling a decent sized plant and not a titchy little band, I say go for it. |
RE: Lets talk about the moyessi Nevada.

| Well i called greenmantle. Nice people to talk too. Only place in the usa i can find that sells nevada. So im going to place an order. Down side is its really hard to propagate. So its at least a year wait to get. So hopefully good things come to those that wait. Lesson of the day PATIENCE. |

pickeringnurseries.com in Canada ships to the u.s. and they begin shipping this spring 2014 'Nevada' on rootstock; R. multiflora is what they usually use. The local public rose garden has a wondrous bed of 'Nevada', each gorgeous plant arches and spreads to about 10 feet in width. Plus they have this bed beside its' pink color sport 'Marguerite Hilling' both are sublime. hortico.com might have "nevada' as well, listed under Old Shrub roses and New or Moyessi hybrids. Lux. |

| My little Nevada came own root from Vintage in April of 2012. It was potted most of that year and at summer's end put in the ground here in my new garden. Truthfully, it grew little this past year - although I got a few buds (which I removed, but one.) If you can get it grafted on multiflora from Pickering, I'd say go for that. |

| Im excited . I got Nevada confirmed on my pickering order for spring. Whats the best place to plant it? Should i plant it with my alba and damasks or put it out in the yard all by itself? |
RE: Lets talk about the moyessi Nevada.
| | |
| Well, I love this rose and would have no problem putting it in a prime position, despite only having one bloom cycle. However, some things to consider - it is not a superfast grower....but it does get large. It can look outstanding as a solitary specimen, anchoring a corner for example.....but it will assort marvellously with the albas and large perennials (foxgloves, larkspur, verbascums, phlox). Tell us more about the possible positions (size, aspect, layout). |
RE: Lets talk about the moyessi Nevada.
| | |
| Just a thought - although Nevada supposedly has moyesii in its lineage, there is a theory that Nevada is related to the spinossissimas. I could't go with either in certainty....but I do know it flowers a full month before moyesii, end of May/June, much more in line with the early spring flowering (and very floriferous spins) |
RE: Lets talk about the moyessi Nevada.

| I could put it in the side yard by itself were it would have all the room it could want and Sun. It would help block out the view of the neighbors house while sitting in the swing in the yard. Or I have a row of Albas and damask along the road in my front yard with 12ft spacing. I could start a second row behind the first row. Maybe start the second row behind and between felicite parmentier and alba semi-plena. |
RE: Lets talk about the moyessi Nevada.

| My own root Nevada took a little while to establish but grew very well in PDX. Wonderful rose here! I agree with Campanula's suggestions re heritage. My Nevada looked more spinossissimaesque than moyesiiesque but terrific rose either way. I also grew a couple of other moyesiis. Great roses in general. I think Campanula posted a photo of (one of?) her red ones a while back. It is glorious!, |
