Our weather is so weird...

Right now it's 78 Degrees, but tonight will go down to freezing and a high tomorrow of 54. Then it heads up again to the 60's and above; very strange!

Ditto Houston! Well, this is better than having a hard freeze that sets in and stays for a while. It isn't so strange if you consider we get the tail ends of the big fronts that sweep across the north, and they only last a few days, then it warms again.

Rain all day tomorrow with thunderstorms later as the temps drop and it all turns into snow for Friday, the first day of winter!

It does not feel like Christmas in Houston.

Mauve, you probably aren't saying that now! It's dropped to 44 at my house, and the wind is incredible. Did you see the news reports of the sandstorm in Lubbock yesterday? Wow!

SF Bay Area, Inland - horse water buckets frozen over in the mornings last few days.

RE: Our weather is so weird...

I have always been excoriated on here by the midwestern and northeastern friends who do not understand a temperature or a mild snow in December, January or February killing our roses, but it is not the occasional 15 degrees or even the snow, but the drastic drop in temperature in a 12-hour period and the accompanying snow which is more ice than anything else and a week of slush followed by summertime 80s. Plants are no different from human beings. Our bodies can tolerate a temperature of 101 but not if it suddenly drops to 96 and back up to 102 within 72 hours. It is just not compatible with a healthy life, neither that of a person or of his roses. Bear with it. Tornadoes in Mobile overnight and my power has been spotty all morning.

ogrose, don't know about you, but I am SURE missing that odd weather!! this cold gray lingering misty garb is draining my enthusiasm!! and the freezes at night are worrying my pots!! are ya with me on that sentiment?? :)

Hi ilovemyroses, have missed seeing your posts! So far I'm rather enjoying our cold weather but that will get old fast, and will be ready for spring to arrive! This period, from after Christmas until the middle of March, is impossible, even depressing, then everything starts popping up again - happens every year and my husband is used to me, so puts up with it!

I need to use this time wisely, as we're in the middle of remodeling our 1970's house and need to be going through our "stuff" accumulated over 40 years plus, but "unfortunately" since retiring have become super lazy and am loving it!

I am glad you are loving retirement! I am trying to use my winter wisely, as I am searching out colleges for my junior high school son...but meander over to the rose forum a bit. Splurged on several bands from California I potted up in 1 and 2 gallon pots I am nursing along...and checking the weather daily.

Good luck de-cluttering...I keep looking for the 'hoarders anonymous' to come knocking on my door, but so far so good...a good indication of what is inside, is what is outside...I sorta hoard roses, one could say!!

Enjoy!!

RE: Our weather is so weird...

We wore suits and coats to church this morning. Our temperature was in the teens on showering and dressing. After church it had risen to 40 and by the time we arrived at the restaurant to meet our friends post church, we had shed our coats and drove with the windows down back home. Now, we have had to turn the heat on as the temperature has dropped. We are expecting 80s on Tuesdays followed by rain. Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain.

In central Ohio I think we have had more snow this year then we had all of last winter.... I have roses in pots thinking we won't have a bad winter but I guess that's what I get for assuming..
