Whilst I really prefer the growth habit and flower form of teas and Austins, there is a particular rose scent that I really like. It is that scent you get from modern roses like Big Purple, Angel Face and Love Potion. Its not a seeet damask fragrance, its quite sharp and exotic. I have grown Angel Face and Love potion, but they were so sickly it seemed cruel to keep them alive.
BUT a fellow rose grower has introduced me to Best Friend AKA Caprice de Meiland which has the same fragrance but on a strong upright and disease resistant bush.

Does anyone know the term for this scent? HMF says fruity, but it's unlike any fruit I know. And are there any antique roses with a similar fragrance?

Here's a pic of my beat-up new plant. The flowers are much nicer if they havent been through a blustery 38 degree day and are excellent for cutting according to my friend.
