Hi everyone,

First time poster here on this forum. My question is that are there any Zone 6 growers who have successfully overwintered Lady Banks roses? "Lutea" is the one that has captured my interest. I belong to my local community theatre and I would like to plant one out there, as she would overtake my gardens here lol.

I am also planning on Winter Sowing some Rosa chinensis "Angel Wings" seeds this year. I am not sure whether it's an older species rose or not, but I just thought I would ask if anyone has grown it here?

Merry Christmas!

Lady Banks might make it she were on a south side, out of the wind, and had a nice high pile of leaves built up around her during the first few winters. She survives fairly easily here, where we do get snow and lots of freezing, tho not nearly as bad as yours. Worth a try.

I can't find an "Angel Wings" China listed on HMF, but regardless, roses do not grow true from their seeds, only from cuttings/clones. So, you can plant your seeds, but you won't get the parent plant.

Thank you catsrose!

I think I will give Lady Banks a try. Our winters here in PA, where I am at anyway, can be harsh, but rarely below 10 degrees. Where the theatre is, there are plenty of leaves that need raking in the fall, so she will be insulated.

I am unsure of Angel Wings, but I'm thinking of trying it anyway.
