My garden is in the early stage. 6 months-less than 2 years. For now, I have a glimpse into the next chapter.

That is a great selection of roses. What are your next plans for the garden?

Although I know a garden is never finished, I think of mine as being in the final stages, with no major changes planned, just minor tweaking. Right now I'm eagerly waiting for my new bands to grow and bloom enough to make their presence felt in the garden.

My garden? The author is stuck in a constant state of revision.

Your pink roses are wonderful! Pink roses are my favorite.

Well chosen roses. Enjoy them, and the journey!
A great quote from one forum member: "A garden that is finished is a garden that is dead". Something like that. I've been working on ours for about eleven years, but we've expanded continuously as we've gone on, making many mistakes and dealing with a degree of adversity. So a few small sections of the garden are mature, one or two areas are mostly planted and mainly need to grow, some you can at least see there's an intention of a garden, however partial and unsatisfactory, and in some places almost all the plants are less than a foot high. And then there's the ground I haven't started on yet.
I won't be surprised if this project gets cut short, especially since my chief labor force is pushing eighty. I think the garden would need about twenty more years to get completely planted, more or less, and for the plants to mature to the point that a person could see what I had in mind. Really this is a multi-generational project, like Jacqueline's garden, and the odds are probably against another enthusiastic gardener's coming along to take over once I'm gone. But I'll keep going as long as I can.

Nice pics of beautiful roses!

I don't know what stage my garden is in. I've done a lot of work on it over the years, but the progress seems very slow. Going to work every day and then recuperating in the evening so I can do it all again the next day doesn't leave a whole lot of time to make progress on the garden. But there are those off times when I accomplish something or when I pay someone to do it. That's when I realize progress is not at a standstill. Then I look at pics of all the stages over the years and I feel satisfied. Enjoy the journey. Lou

Mauvegirl8,,

My front garden is in the stage behind yours, as most of my planting and design changes, that are still on-going, began this summer. My back garden has plants now going into their fourth year but most were planted as grafted potted or bare root roses. The front has definitely been an exercise in patience. Thanks for showing the images:)

Now, I stand back and observe. I am the audience.

Revising here. Some of the roses have turned into monsters and their neighbors have to be moved. Others are not happy due to lack of full sun or too much sun. So others are moving.
And so it goes. It's a fun time.

I'm greatly enjoying everyone's statements (some quite humorous), about the state of their garden. I hope we have lots more people joining in. I feel that we're on this journey together, although we may all be at different stations. It's a comfortable feeling.

There are many bits which are pleasing to my eye and many that are quite the opposite......have been at this stage for roughly 15 years or so.

My garden is in a state that my neighbors disapprove of. I work to feed the wildlife and my soul. Those who must have perfection should not live next to me.

Duchesse de Brabant, Maman Cochet, Bleninda's Dream ... you know how to pick some GREAT roses!

My garden is in a stage of regression. I got a bit carried away in my earlier "rose" years. And now I'm down-sizing to a level that I can maintain, and more importantly, keep watered.
