Young Lycidas question

Does Young Lycidas's foliage normally have a bit of a ripple? Looking almost like a too "dry" rose (needing water) I thought mine was dry and added an extra dripper a few weeks ago. Today, and a week after a good rain soaking, the leaves still have that ripply look. I checked on HMF and a few photos seem to have similar leaves. Is that normal for this rose? Or has she gone from too dry to too damp? (We have not watered since the rain and it has gotten little gray water-but is still rather damp soil)

YL leaves reminds me of 'Sharifa Asma' and 'Strawberry Hill.' At first, I was worried about the look, but as rose gets bigger and have more leaves, it will look fine. |

Just a side note: The name "Lycidas" is a male name, so you should probably refer to that rose as "he." But it is your garden, so do it however you want. : ) Kate

You are so right Kate! I have a hard time with the male names of roses and calling them "he" I have a few men in the garden that I need to stop calling "she" (Abe, Don and Mr Lincoln all get the shes when in bloom)

Kippy - I looked at my two young bushes, and both have some, what I'd describe, rippley leaves. And the new growth looks somewhat chloritic, then they settle into a non-chloritic color when more established. For me, the Austins leaf growth is alien. Definitely don't look like my HTs. I'm just ignoring the leaves and letting them do their thing. YL has produced a load of blooms for me already, so hes/shes both seem to be happy.

Bless you Hoovb!! That is what mine looks like! Thanks for the second on that too Harmony! Was trying to figure out how I could raise the plant and add some sand with out digging it all the way out-it was looking happy with all the fresh growth and did not want to set it back

It's a yes from me too, all have a slight wave to them. Looks not too far removed from the foliage on madame isaac pereire, that has a similar crinkle to it.

I ordered my Young Lycidas back in Jul/Aug. I can't wait any longer. I'm in Texas. So maybe next month?
