I have planted the annual type of bee balm, I think its called 'Bergamo'. I started them inside and then planted them out in the spring. Just be aware that perennial bee balms can be very invasive, and had to get rid of with their spreading roots!

Thanks for the info. I was looking at the Monarda which I believe is suppose to be an perennial. I guess if it works for the annual it should work for the perennial variety. Julia

You can sow indoors, a little cooler than some seeds may work best, 55-65F with a temp reduction at night. Barely cover, some light may be beneficial to germination - should germinate in approx 15-20 days. If sowing m. fistulosa and no germination in 3-4 weeks, give a moist chill of 2-4 weeks or just assume those will need it and begin with that.

Thanks. I'll try it and see what happens. Julia

I have one that has been outdoors since last Fall & has weathered several frosts quite fine (still has a lot of green foliage). Is this a normal trait of the plant? When I received it at a plant swap, I didn't know much about it. - Steve
