| this spring I plan on planting white clover and red clover. I have been reading up on using an inoculant, but I don't get it. how do you fling wet seeds out of a seed spreader? I'm missing something. anybody ever actually do this? thanks. |

| You don't wet the seed. Inoculation is not sprouting seeds but growing plants that fertilize the soil. An inoculant--which is of the pea family-- puts nutrients into the soil from the nodules that grow on their roots. Clover is a member of the pea family. |

| You LIGHTLY dampen the seed. I usually use sprite to help the inoculant stick(from the syrup) to the seed. If you are inoculating 10 lbs of seed, just use a splash of sprite or water to moisten it just a bit. The seed should be dry and coated with inoculant before planting. On a sunny day it should dry within a couple minutes. Plant the same day you inoculate. Lots of clovers are coated and pre-inoculated now, especially the big name brand varieties like durana and patriot. |

| I have overseeded my lawn with white clover several years in a row to increase its presence. The easiest way I have found to do it is to have the yard core aerated with a plugger that pulls plugs of soil out of the yard and then hand broadcoast the seed. Clover seed is very small and you can spread it too thickly very easily. I have never had to add an innoculant to the white clover seed I have sowed and it germinates just fine. |
