| With all due respect to your Dad, bush beans are not a cool weather crop. They are a summer crop. In your zone that would probably mean direct seeding in June. Planted too early - before the soil temps are at least 60 degrees - just leads to seed rot, not germination. And that 60 degree soil temp is the minimum required, 65-75 is listed as the ideal on all germination websites.
