| Hello,
I'm a beginner at indoor sowing, and I've been told a sterile germination mix is the best for starting seed. But when you transplant the seedlings to the pot, what kind of soil should be used in the pots? I haven't really been able to find the answer, I'm not sure if you just use the same germination mix, potting soil, compost, or what. Thanks. |

| I still use a seed starting mix when I transplant my seedlings into 2-4" pots. When they are ready in the spring to go into their final pots I use a good potting mix. But this also depends on what type of plant it is, some like more compost, some like sand... overall, I would go with a good potting mix. Just stay away from topsoil or bedding soil. Just a tip.. I always mix in any leftover seedling mix with my potting mix when I plant outdoors. I hope that helps. Happy gardening. Keriann~ |

| I sometimes use one of the many "growing-on" potting mixes that contain a small amount of fertilizer in them. I don't particularly care for the Miracle Grow mixes although many report using it with success. Sta-Green makes a good similar mix and even Walmart's brand called Expert Gardener works ok. This approach works well for things that will eventually be grown in a container. It gets them adapted to what will be their permanent growing conditions. But most of the time for things that will be transplanted to the garden rather than a container I prefer using my same seed starting mix (I use ProMix BX) and feeding them with a weak, diluted liquid fertilizer instead. | Ferti-lome, both to start seeds and when transplanting into 3" nursery containers. Mike |

| Well, I suggest anything that comes tightly sealed, because the bag I bought had a huge yellow spider in it. About sent me through the roof... :0 Kim |

| There are many products on the market and a lot of good ones. I have a small container business, making about 100 planter and hanging baskets and I have found Pro Mix the best. If it dries, it is very easy to re wet. Stan |
