After Successful Sprouting...

| After following the excellent advice on this forum I have around 9 tre-folded coffee folders filled with Jasmine Tobacco and Datura seeds. Little tiny things...just starting to show a second leaf.
From reading here and elsewhere I understand it's suggested to not transplant until that 2nd or even 3rd leaf appears.
My question is...with sprouts so tiny should one attempt to transplant individually?
Also...could you just add soil to the coffee filter and let nature take its course.
Bottom line...I'm not sure how long to wait to transplant. Any advice or referal to a thread talking about this would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance...

| I would get them out of the paper and into soil. Starting in the paper is OK but growing in paper is not. You may have to cut the paper around the seedlings because you are likely to break off the root trying to get it out of the paper. Plant the seedlings individually and if some paper is still attached it is ok. Al |

| Burt, When they talk about transplanting, it refers to a later stage in the process. Once the seeds have germinated, follow the advice outlined in calistoga's post. The initial leaves are called "cotyledon." These are not true leaves; they will eventually fall off. Any leaves after these are considered true leaves. Once two or three of them appear, then you can most likely transplant safely them to a larger container. |
