Am I Right ...

Am I right in assuming that this little Cherry seedling will die once it uses all the food supplies in it's cotyledons? Thanks for any advice. Richard

Yes, the seed casing will fall off.

The cotyledons will fall off but the plant itself will continue to live assuming there are some nutrients in the soil or that you feed it as needed.

If you never feed it then yes, eventually the plant will die.

The picture represents the colors fairly accurately. I believe the plant is an albino, and my understanding is that without chlorophyll the plant will not be able to produce the carbohydrates it needs to fuel it's metabolism.

Oh, I just assumed based on the info given that the white one was just a result of color photography of lighting. So my comments were directed at the green plants.

Personally I have never seen an "albino" plant of any kind survive to that size so yes, I would expect it to die off rather soon. It would be interesting tho to try to keep it going as long as possible.

Wow, that is quite amazing. I'd love to know how it does; other than the lack of color, the leaves look incredibly healthy!

Unfortunately the little guy slowly withered away, it was sad to watch. I tried a little dose of fertilizer, SuperThrive, misting with kelp. Without chlorophyl it was starving to death. It sure was pretty for a few weeks.

Bummer. :-( well, it was beautiful while it lasted. Thanks for sharing, Jake; I'd never seen one before!
