I just planted some onion seed in pots, walla walla, granex yellow, spanish utah. I want transplants by about May 1, do you think this will happen or should I just order plants?

RE: Onion seeds

I start my seed in Feb. every year. I only plant Sweet Candy Onions but I am sure they all do as good. I plant them outside in april and cover them with row covers. They do awesome. Planting them to thick in the pots makes it hard to de-tangle little plants. I did both seeds and plants last year. My seeds by far out did that starts.

Thanks, sounds like I'm good to go, and I have been looking for seed packets for those Sweet Candies and so far can't find any locally.

RE: Onion seeds

I got them last fall at our local IFA. As soon as they get there seeds out I will see if they have them again. Most seeds Catalogs have them, its the red candy ones I cannot find seeds for. I will get back to you as soon as I know if they are carrying them this year.
