Full StoryHelp. I bought two cell pack trays, planted the first one 2 days ago. Yesterday I soaked the second one for 24 hours, and just now, when I took the lid off it to plant my seeds, it smells very strongly of mildew! I am afraid to plant in it, now. So I also took the plastic lid off the first one, all planted, and it smells like mildew too! Oh no!
Water source: We have a new, complicated water softener system, so I haven't used tap water, but there is a spring on the property, and I filled a bucket from it. The bucket had been used for compost, maybe traces were still there, and I also added a little weak tea, both black tea and camomile, as I read on this forum.
Last time I used my own compost to start seeds and they all had damping off, just laid down and died. (different house, different water, different compost, we just moved here) I thought I was avoiding that this time, by getting the cell trays.
What should I do now? Are my seeds a lost cause already?!!
