Greenhouse trays--okay to start outdoors?

lilamy

I have done flats indoors many years ago but have not started seeds in a long time. In my current house there just isn't room inside for trays or lights. I got a couple of those little flats with the plastic "greenhouse" tops and was wondering if I could just start my seeds outside. I am on the NC/VA border and our official last frost is April 15, but it is often the middle of march instead. The daytime temps have been in the 60s. I could always move the trays into my shed and cover them if we were to have a frost and could use a heat lamp as well. I am wanting to start seeds for my butterfly garden and have packs of asters, zinnias, bachelor buttons and a few other things as well as seed pods from my own buddleia bushes. Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks!
