In the past years I've started seeds in my basement where the temperature was always a constant (and I have a seed starting heating pad). This year I'm moving this operation to an outdoor shed, there's much more room. I can put a space heater in it to help modulate the temp, however what is an ideal range of temps for successful seed propagation? I also have growing lights and a thermometer so I adjust the heat as necessary. Thanks! Bobby

It is a broad range of soil temps for germination. Different vegetables require different temps ranging from 40 to 85. Air temps is a different matter and only related to after germination. So if what you are asking is what air temps you need to avoid damaging the seedlings then 45 is the usually recommended minimum and 60-65 the maximum. Dave

Bobby, if you Google "germination temperature" you will find numerous extension websites and others that have charts for vegetables & flowers. Here is one.
