Starting seeds on fireplace hearth, I like it! Just sharing!

I'm remodeling my Parents old house with plans to move in next year.

It has an old fireplace with a ventless gas stove in front of the fireplace which is sealed up. And in another room it has ventless gas logs.

I have the thermostat set at 50 degrees to keep the water pipes from freezing. I noticed that the mantels and rock always feel warm to the touch even when the heat hasn't came on in hours. The mantels are 4" thick, 16" wide, 10' long, and made of solid wood.

So long story short, I started some seed there. Just small samples with my extra seed. Too early for tomatoes, squash, and pepper. But I wanted to give it a try before my main seeds need to be started.

Cabbage, broccoli, and yellow squash came up in 4 day's, tomatoes and peppers in 7 days.

I'm sure that when we move in "sweethang" will nix this. She already doesn't like it! But I will be starting my seeds there this year!

Plus it may be too hot when I bring the heat up close to 70.

Edited cause this big old dummy typed hearth instead of mantels! LOL
