| My tidal wave petunia seedlings have begun flowering.
While I love their flowers, I think I should pinch them off to encourage a better root/growth system. I will say, they look great! Nice tight branching and great color (foliage), but they will not see 'the great outdoors' till early May. What do you think, should I pinch them? Keriann~ |

| I wouldn't but that's just me. Too be fair I have to admit that I am not a big fan of pinching much of anything. Pinching is something invented by gardeners, not by plants so it's strictly an appearance issue, not a functional issue. I prefer to let most plants do what comes naturally. But do your own comparison. Pinch some and don't pinch some and see which you prefer. ;) Dave |

| keriann-- I haven't grown the trailing petunias much, but I know others who do. Some don't cut them back, but one lady cuts back the longest trailer every week. She says it makes for a much bushier basket and she avoids the bare center look. It must because her hanging baskets are beautiful. The bonus if you cut them back is that you can root the cuttings and make new plants. The choice is yours. |
