| I am trying to fill in a small area around pavers with a dense ground cover. I would like to seed the area with creeping thyme (thymus serpyllum) rather than spending far more to buy small plugs. I am in zone 7a, with full hot sun on the area. Is this a long shot? |

| IME it is a fairly long shot because CT is so slow to germinate and requires consistent soil moisture until it does. Difficult to do that with direct seeding. You can start it yourself indoors and then plant the seedlings outside but if this is a heavy use area around the pavers I'd strongly suggest you consider something else as CT doesn't stand up well to traffic abuse. Consider one of the sedums or wintercreeper. Dave |

| I have creeping thyme growing around flagstone and it's working out pretty good. Once you get at least one plant going then you can start taking cuttings. Most thyme cuttings do pretty good even without a humidity dome. Within two seasons you'll probably have all the creeping thyme you need. |

| I winter-sowed it last year with good success. But the seed pack recommended that it be babied through the first year, and then planted in the permanent position in the fall. So I agree - direct sowing in full sun and traffic will be problematic. |
