blanched seedling leaves

I just started taking my seedlings outside during warm sunny days (I have been keeping them under flourescent grow lights) and bringing them back in at night, but lately the leaves of my tomato, eggplant, basil and pepper plants have started to turn white and some are shriveling at the tips. Any idea what this could be?

Here is a link that might be useful: white leaves pic

It could be environmental stress, herbicide damage or viral infection like yellow leaf curl virus.

They're getting burned. A common problem with impatient gardeners (I've fallen for it myself!) Let them heal, then acclimate them to the outdoors more slowly (shorter periods out, and don't start them in direct sunlight).

Seedlings of your size put outside would be better in the shade, at least partial shade and GRADUALLY an hour or two at a time. The foliage is not tough enough to go from inside to outside all at once. Al

Agree - It's sunburn/windburn, too many hours outside too soon. And I think we've all done it, rushing the hardening off....but we do learn.

Ha! And I stuck them outside in full sun thinking "they are just going to love all this sunshine and fresh air." Thank you for the responses, I'm sure I'll be back with plenty more first year farmer mistakes!

OKAY. I did this, too. Will they recover?

 o
RE: blanched seedling leaves

Yes they will recover. It is only a few leaves and the plant will make new ones. When hardening off the first few days should ALWAYS be in shade until plants get used to UV rays

The quickest way to learn patience - take up gardening.
