Personal Journals and Records

I know my memory falls me at times and can't remember when
I planted that cherry tree or how long did it take for my cosmo seeds
to germinate last year?

I always wondered if anyone else keeps records/journals of their garden endeavors.
I know some do record info in books but what about on the internet?
I would love to easily see other gardeners records and pictures.

Hope their are other people out there like me who can share.
Please post if you do.

Here's MineGarden Endeavors

Thanks,

Patsi

Patsi,
there are lots and lots of guides to garden blogs(journals) and bloggers:

My Folia
The Power Guides - Gardening
Blotanical
And GW's own garden blogs guide - Garden Voices

Right now there are a bunch of garden bloggers meeting from all over the US for the first time in Austin at the first annual 'Spring Fling'. I gather they're having a great time!

Thanks so much.
I looked at all of them and found Blotanical the most useful.
Still can't find anything similar to mine which I think is more to the point.

Most blogs I viewed are very limited info regarding flowers etc.
But they're great If you want to know about other gardeners lives.

Thanks again,

Patsi

Hi patsi,

I'm one of the creators of MyFolia and I'm pretty sure that our site may be very close to what you are after. We have loads of people all tracking and journaling their plantings all across the world and we'd love you to join us :)

MyFolia is an online gardening tracker and organiser site that I have been designing in my spare time over the past 6 months. We so far have: day counters showing how long each of your plantings have been growing and when you planted each one; the ability to journal and attach "events" (like sprouted, flowering, blooming etc.) so that you can look back and see exactly when things happened in your garden, weather tools, to-do lists...and lots more.

We'd love you to take a look through our tour (http://www.myfolia.com/tour) - if there is anything that is missing we would love to hear about it. We are developing this site from the feedback of our users and are very open to listening to new ideas and suggestions.

Thanks!

Nic

Hi Nic,

Maybe I'm having a little trouble navigating at your site...
example :one person's journal.
She mentions one type of tomato plant she's growing...that's it?
You should see my husbands list.
By the way it wasn't updated last year.
He grows about 200 different kinds of heirloom tomatoes a year.
I tried to get him to record all info regarding each tomato on his blog list
but he says it's too much work and anyway we know what our favorites
are for repeats in future years.

For myself I'll have a smaller amount of flower plants than last year.
When all have germinated and been transplanted it will be 128 plants.

I will not give up yet checking out your web site.
If I have any questions I'll let you know.

Thanks,

Patsi

RE: Personal Journals and Records

Hi again, Patsi.
:)
Yes, My Folia can seem really complicated at first. It takes a while to get the hang of it, but I do like it better than Blotanical as that site has ratings and can quickly turn into a popularity contest.
If You click My Folia, then, at the top of the page click on plants.

As you can see, on that page there is a 'search' box at the top of the page where you can type in what plant (or variety) you want to see if someone is growing.

So, if you click 'tomatoes', you can see that there are (at this particular moment), 281 different varieties being grown by My Folia's members.

And no...I have no connection to the site other than being a member and enjoying using it. ;)

I DO understand what you're looking for though - you want a list of everything everyone is growing, variety, start date, germ date, transplant date, yield, etc. - but I don't think you'll find too many people who have that kind of discipline, and it's usually associated with hand written journals. I keep one online, just to be able to look back on the year before and see if I can improve on something or give the plant better conditions, and it's much easier with labels I can click or using the 'search function rather than trying to flip through hundreds of pages of hand written notes.

Why not give My Folia a try? You might find you like it more than you thought you would, and heck - it's free. Maybe you could get hubby to put in his plants that way?
:)

I just found MyFolia via the Square Foot Gardening Flickr group, and it seems very promising! My username on MyFolia is Avalonna.
