Started melons showing male flowers. Transplant?

I started six muskmelon plants from seed 5 weeks ago. All are in 3.5" square pots. I meant to transplant them last week, but got swamped during finals week. I noticed yesterday that three of them are starting to show male flowers. I am wondering if I can still go ahead and transplant these, or are they effectively rootbound now?

Only you can determine how badly rootbound they are. Young plants can often be prised apart or even sliced in order to encourage branching of the root system. Don't be afraid to do that.

Just try not to rip the roots but cut them sharply instead. Young roots are extremely willing to grow a flush of new roots at the severed ends.
